Real Stories, Real Growth
Every young person who walks through our doors has a story. Here are just a few of the lives that have changed since Youth Active opened its doors in Newham. Behind every statistic is a real person who found confidence, direction, and community.
"Before Youth Active, I didn't really have anywhere to go after school. Now I come three times a week. I've learned to code, made real friends, and for the first time I feel good about my future."
Aisha
Programme Member, Age 15
"Football here gave me structure when I needed it most. The mentors actually listened — they didn't judge me. I'm now doing an apprenticeship and I help out at sessions on weekends."
Marcus
Programme Member, Age 17
"As a parent in Newham, you worry about what your child gets up to after school. Youth Active gave me peace of mind. My son has grown so much in confidence and the staff genuinely care."

Why it matters in Newham
Newham is one of London's most diverse and vibrant boroughs — but also one of its most deprived. Young people here face real pressures: rising costs of living, limited safe spaces after school, and the pull of negative influences. Youth Active exists to break that cycle. Our evening programme runs during the hours when young people are most at risk, replacing boredom and isolation with purpose, skill, and belonging.
What consistent support looks like
We don't do one-off events. Our young people come back week after week because they feel seen and valued. Over time that consistency builds trust — and trust builds change. Whether it's a young person completing their first CV, a parent feeling reassured about their child's safety, or a volunteer discovering a passion for mentoring, every step forward counts.
