Code of Conduct

Our shared commitment to creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for every young person, volunteer, and staff member at Youth Active.

Our commitment

This Code of Conduct applies to all young people, parents, carers, volunteers, staff, and visitors taking part in or attending Youth Active programmes, events, and online spaces. By taking part, everyone agrees to follow these guidelines and help build a community based on trust and respect.

Standards of conduct

Respect & inclusion
  • Treat every person with kindness and respect, regardless of age, background, gender, disability, religion, or ethnicity.
  • Use inclusive and appropriate language at all times.
  • Celebrate differences. Discrimination, prejudice, or derogatory language of any kind will not be tolerated.
Safety & wellbeing
  • Everyone has the right to feel safe at Youth Active activities and events.
  • Report any concern about a young person's safety or wellbeing to a staff member immediately.
  • Do not engage in or encourage any behaviour that puts yourself or others at risk of harm.
Behaviour expectations
  • Follow instructions from staff and volunteers at all times.
  • Take care of equipment, facilities, and shared spaces. If damage is caused deliberately, you may be removed from activities.
  • Arrive on time and notify staff in advance if you are unable to attend.
  • Mobile phones and devices should be used responsibly and not to disturb sessions.
Online & social media
  • Do not post images, videos, or personal information about other members without their explicit consent.
  • Bullying, harassment, or harmful content shared online about Youth Active or its members will be dealt with the same as if it happened in person.
  • Represent Youth Active positively in any online space.
Zero tolerance

Youth Active has a zero-tolerance policy towards bullying, harassment, physical aggression, verbal abuse, and any form of discrimination. This applies to behaviour directed at young people, staff, volunteers, or visitors, whether in person or online.

Consequences of misconduct

If someone breaks these rules, we will respond based on how serious it is. This could include:

1A verbal warning and conversation with a staff member.
2A written warning and notification to a parent or carer (for under-18s).
3Temporary suspension from activities.
4Permanent exclusion from Youth Active programmes.

Reporting a concern

Speak to any staff member or volunteer in confidence.
Email us directly. All reports are taken seriously.
Parents and carers are always welcome to raise concerns.
Concerns about a young person's safety follow our Safeguarding Policy.
